HAZWOPER 24-Hour

The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) applies to five distinct groups of employers and their employees. This includes any employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances -- including hazardous waste -- and who are engaged in one of the following operations as specified by 1910.120(a)(1)i-v) and 1926.54(a)(1)(i-v). This course is designed for general site workers who are required to receive a minimum of required hours of instruction off the site.

Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to demonstrate and understanding of the role of the first responder at the operations level; survey the incident to identify the container and materials involved, given scenarios; collect hazard and response information of a given know substance; predict the likely behavior of the material given an simulated incident; estimate the potential harm with an endangered area; describe operations level response objectives; identify defensive options given a simulated facility or transportation problem; determine the appropriate protective equipment given a known hazardous material; identify emergency decontamination procedures; establish control zones; initiate the Incident Command System; demonstrate the ability to don, work in and doff personal protective clothing; demonstrate defensive control actions; evaluate the status of defensive actions; communicate the status of the planned response to the incident commander, given a simulated facility or transportation incident and utilize monitoring equipment according to the authority having jurisdiction to assess the presence of hazardous materials.
